Give Thanks for Scrum 2024: The Future of Scrum?

Join us on Tuesday November 26, 2024 In-Person at Microsoft in Burlington, MA for Agile Boston’s 16th Annual Give Thanks For Scrum event.

THE THEME OF THE 2024 EVENT: The Future of Scrum?

CHANGE. It’s the constant.
Scrum became a thing around 1996. That was over 30 years ago. Scrum pre-dated the Agile Manifesto, which was created on 2001.
That was a long, long time ago.
In the present day the Scrum framework is well-understood, and now is in the late stages of its own development.
Lately, people in ‘agile’ roles are reporting some very big changes. What are these changes?
1. Employees in agile roles are being laid off by large companies
2. Consultants & coaches are reporting big problems finding steady engagements
3. “Agile” is being subsumed into the Product function in large companies
4. Millions of “agile is dead” essays are appearing everywhere. Take a look here: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ftsa&q=agile+dead&ia=web)
Reflected in what is now common language:
“MVP.”
“Validated learning.”
“Pivot.” “Scrum.”
“Sprint.”
“Retrospective.”
“Product Owner.”
These terms are all now in very common use. Yet Scrum itself has failed to truly penetrate the silos, the bureaucracy, and the power structure of organizations struggling with change.
WHY?
Is there a role for Scrum in our future? And if so, what role will Scrum play?
Are empirical processes like Scrum the new normal?  Is the idea of very-frequent inspection valued and now a natural part of doing business?
Or with the recent layoffs of many Scrum Masters, agile coaches and consultants across the industry, are we going backwards?
Does Scrum itself need to adapt? And if so, How?
THESE are the big questions we will answer at the 16th annual GIVE THANKS FOR SCRUM event held in the Burlington MA the Tuesday before USA Thanksgiving. Join us as we explore our 2024 theme: THE FUTURE OF SCRUM?
