The Layered Champions Workshop

October 13, 2021

Frank Saucier and Ann K Brea introduce an updated Layered Champions worksheet and demonstrate how to use with two volunteers mapping real life organizational structures and impediments.  The worksheet was changed to reduce some confusion around whether the managers of the PO and SM are part of the Layered Champions Team.

Quick answer … They are not!

The Layered Champions Team (LCT) consists of the Orbit 1 and 2 champions (PO + SM + DEV Managers). Champions in Orbit 3 and above are part of the Layered Champions Network (LCN), however, they would only be engaged with the LCT when necessary. For example, if the PO or SM left the company, the manager of that role would join the LCT until that accountability hole was solved. That doesn’t make them the PO or the SM. They would simply be involved until health was restored.
